This is a 4:17 minute excerpt of Snake's Shadow
Snake’s Shadow pays tribute to martial arts films of the 1970s. These films portrayed martial arts characters as being: lethal hero, wise mystic, having super natural abilities with some campiness added to the mix. Films from the LIFT/Reel Asian archive were used in this work to produce a 3 channel video that plays out on three adjacent walls of A Space Gallery. Each wall contains edits that are edited to music that was inspired by rhythmic Buddhist chanting and sounds from the 1970s era. Sometimes the sounds are soothing medatative music conjuring up movements in tai chi while other times there are electrifying drum beats that awaken the martial arts characters in a call to action.
