Archival Inkjet Print, 27" x 40" x 2"
Coppie is a series of digital composites generated from archival photographs of couples and families, whose title is drawn from the Italian word for couples, but also rings familiar in English as a play on the word copy. The images depict families broken apart by digital artifacts and other embedded visual elements of stress and historical artifact. Images that once reinforced the perpetual commitment central to the passage of tradition and culture are passed through a digital filter, resulting in a disconnect of reprocessed memories, broken intentions and contemporary personal borders. Often framed within marriage certificates archived from my family history, the finished works question the vitality and expectations of 21st century relationships.
