The Chase: Sisyphus and the Human Genome, 2008
Mixed Media, Dimensions Variable

A fully equipped genetics lab was built in the gallery space to mark the centennial of the 1908 Springfield Race Riot. The DNA of two men were synthesized and translated into code, and lab techs were employed to manually hunt variations in the code through comparison. If a variation was found, the lab tech would compare it to the mitochondrial genome from people of African or European origin to find a conclusive difference. No differences were found.
