Still Lives: Study of the Fates, 2010
LED flatscreen, framed and matted, HD video, x 44 x 30 x 3", Duration Variable
A series of video portraits as an unfolding of real time. Half an hour of film is half an hour in each person’s life; the timeline is not edited to freeze or slow down. In presenting stages of life that are already less in motion, the work hovers as nearly a still image and then, reveals a reality beyond the single snapshot. The work merges the visual impact of portraiture with
the time-capturing essence of moving images. These works are chambers
holding various incarnations of time—the passing of measured instants,
narratives of personal memories, and connections to a longer history.
